The Vortex indicator is similar to the +DI and -DI lines inside the ADX because both tools help show which side of the market is currently in control. When the positive Vortex line is above the negative line, I start paying more attention to buy opportunities. When the negative line is above the positive line, I start paying more attention to sell opportunities. The difference is that the ADX also gives you a strength reading, while the Vortex focuses more on directional pressure and possible shifts in control.

All of your trading ideas should come from some form of price confirmation. As you trade, you’ll start to see the many ways that confirmation can show up.
